Tracee  looked glamorous rocking a black/nude lace dress with her hair pulled back in a high, full ponytail, red suede pumps(YSL-LoooVe) and minimal makeup. Then again, Tracee Ellis Ross can do no wrong in my book when it comes to her style choices. She always looks AMAZING, and the BET Awards were no different. I can’t wait to see her return to television this fall in her new show “Reed Between the Lines.” (Although, she’ll  always be Joan Clayton in my book ).

SOLO REVEALS HER WARDROBE/STYLE SECRETS

 

 

Solange Knowles opens her suitcase for a shoot with  Refinery 29 at New York’s Standard Hotel.  The singer who recently celebrated her 24th birthday reveals her style inspirations, her love for shoes and the inspiration behind her upcoming album in stores this fall.

Solange donns a collection of gorgeous looks, showing her mix of high-end and street style from a Boxing Kitten top, Urban Outfitter intimates and studded Louboutin oxfords.

What’s your secret style weapon?
“Shoes! I’m all about the shoes! I order a ton of them online and play with my entire wardrobe until I find the right shoe. Unfortunately, so many people get it right from the head until the ankles. The shoe is very important. I can’t even fuck with you if your shoe game is slacking.”

What inspired the bold new ‘do? You mentioned you can no longer hide with that hair, has it changed the way you see yourself?
“When I was recording, I was staying in a house with five guys and two showers. I knew there would be a shower wait everyday and with my natural cropped hair, it’s mandatory that I wash it otherwise it gets stuck to my head like glue! I wanted to get something that I could literally roll out of bed without looking nuts. I watched so many Chaka Khan YouTube videos and became sort of obsessed with her during the process. I went to my stylist and said ‘Give me the fro.’ I walk differently now, sing differently; This hair has spirit and soul.”

What’s your best cheap score of late?
“A cream leather belt with a gold buckle I found at a vintage store in Santa Barbara for ten bucks. I wear it with everything now.” (SEE BELT IN PICTURE BELOW–love the mix of high & lo..iDig it ! )

Do you have anything in your closet that you could never bear to throw away?
“Oh yes! A few things, but one in particular sticks out: A BCBG short, ruffled, floral, baby doll dress I’ve had since I was 16. I wore it at my wedding reception when I was 17. The waistline comes up to the middle of my boobs now, but I just can’t let go of it. It’s so perfect.”

If your style were a song, what song would it be?
“For sure Q-Tip’s ‘Vivrant Thang’.”

Brown’s tribute to Michael Jackson may have come a year late for some, but that didn’t stop him from moonwalking, strutting, crooning, crotch-grabbing and doing everything else he could to channel Michael Joseph Jackson at the 10th anniversary of the BET Awards. 

Sunday night’s performance  was the first time he was able to apologize to the world on his terms: through doing what he does best by honoring the best.  

Was it well received? I think so.  Were there naysayers and critics? Of course! Everyone is perfect right? ABSOLUTELY NOT! If you couldn’t feel the sincerity in his performance…Well,  that is just too bad(shakes head).

Standing 5′, there is nothing SMALL about her fashion sense.  She knows exactly what makes her petite body frame appear larger than life.  She’s seen above in a Fendi strapless mini frock and stacked peep-toe Louboutins which showed off her gym-honed limbs to perfection. What is the single most important piece of clothing in a woman’s wardrobe?

For me, it is the GREAT WHITE SHIRT! It has the power to give class to the shortest of mini shorts, it goes with any wash of jeans, and its approachable.  But it HAS to be CLEAN AND CRISP for this effect! My absolute fav, is the  Brooks Brothers’ No-Iron Fitted White Shirt.  Was it an investment piece? Y of course! $89 in stores and $50 if you’re near an outlet.  Trust me ladies, it is WELL worth the bucks. 8)

If anyone exudes effortless style, it’s Tracee Ellis Ross. When you’re the daughter of Diana Ross, I’m sure there’s a genetic code producing all kinds of fashion & do-no wrong signals… I ran across a few vintage pix of Diana.. and thought to myself, self, ” You have got to be one haute mom!” And so I shall… 8)

This is what Tracee says of her sense ofstyle:

 “I have a great closet of clothes, including some of my mom’s old pieces,” says Ross, who often styles herself and does her own hair and makeup, both on and off the set. “I’ve had pretty consistent taste since I was young, and my body hasn’t changed much, so a lot of things that worked on me back then still work on me now.”

 “Just Wright” revolves around a sports trainer who finds herself falling in love with a professional basketball player while rehabilitating him from a career-threatening injury.  The movie is expected to be in theaters nationwide sometime in 2010.

More or less I just congratulated her. We hung out at different parties over the weekend for the Grammys. The special things I do I don’t talk about them too much because they’re really sacred. I feel like I’m a lucky and blessed guy.
